Le persone sono tentate di abbandonare la preghiera... perché trovano che i loro pensieri vagano... Io rispondo così: pregare attentivamente è un'abitudine. Bisogna sempre tenere ciò a mente... Nessuna abitudine si forma al primo tentativo. E prima che la fimma della fede si purifichi e si rafforzi nel cuore, grazie alla prassi prolungata e l'esperienza, sarà di sicuro capriciosa nei suoi moti, ballerà ( per così dire) e tremerà, e a volte sembrerà sul punto di estinguersi... c'è una regola semplice: bisogna essere attenti per essere attenti in preghiera.

What a simple rule it is, to try to be attentive in order to be so! and yet it is continually overlooked
